5 Things Your Makeup Artist Wants You To Know

5 Things Your Makeup Artist Wants You To Know
The Bridal Look

We all have events in our lives that require us to present ourselves in the best light, and when one of these events comes around we often seek out the services of a hairdresser to ensure our hair looks it’s best & we invest in a new outfit.  However, if you really want to look your best you need to be thinking more broadly about your overall appearance and give some consideration to your skincare and your makeup which can have a big impact on your end result.

It is not always just about ‘the hair and the dress’, so why do we see so many women arriving to one of the biggest events/nights of their lives looking like they’re auditioning for a role on Jersey Shore?

Big hair and plastered on make-up may work for you if you’re on a reality TV show, but in the real world too much makeup and bad hair can ruin your night of celebration. So what should a woman do to make sure her make-up enhances, rather than detracts from her outfit?
We asked professional make up artist Lauren Nolan for some tips to ensure you look the best on your big event. She believes that too many people fail to prepare their faces for their big night out, and that with just a little time each day doing some basic steps, young ladies can really improve the end result.

Lauren believes that these simple strategies listed below should be part of everyone’s beauty routine, and she recommends all women make a special effort to take action about 8 weeks prior to their Makeup Artist arriving to apply their makeup.

”If you are going to invest in an outfit for your event, it’s also worth considering investing in a professional makeup artist to complete the finishing touches,” says Lauren. “By actioning these 5 recommendations will ensure you have a beautiful outcome.”

Lauren said” There is a growing trend for professional women to engage a Makeup Artist before they have a job interview or they make a presentation to clients as they really want to  make sure their overall look is complete & professional”.

Here are Lauren’s - 5 Things Your Makeup Artist Wants You to Know!
1. Have your eyebrows waxed and shaped by a professional – not your best friend please! Do this at least 1 week before the big night.

2. 8 weeks before the big night set up a good skincare routine if you do not have one.  Invest in some good quality natural skincare – try Elly B Orangic skincare made right here in Australia, it is a brilliant range of skincare and smells divine

3. Cleanse your skin morning and night so your skin will glow with a healthy radiance

4. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate, do you get the hint? This is one of the most important things you should do to get rid of dead skin cells and dry skin patches.  Exfoliate at least twice a week before the formal, however, do not exfoliate on the day - the last time you exfoliate should be the day before.

Exfoliate

5. Moisturise your skin at least once a day, preferably twice a day and always before applying makeup to your skin.  Botanical Moisturiser from Elly B Organic skincare is a non-greasy product and it works well on all skin types so give it a try.

If you follow these simple steps to prepare for your special event then your Makeup Artist will have beautifully a polished canvas to work on and the end results will be simply stunning.

Remember: If the formal dress is the cake, a woman’s makeup and hair are the icing.

Look amazing on your day
No matter what the occasion follow these steps and also engage an MUA as a treat, make it even more special

Sourcing new products for Clients- NYX Cosmetics

This week a client asked me if we had the NYX S118 Eye Shadow box in stock. The bad news was that we did not have it at all and never had one.  This box has 112 different eye shadows in it and looked amazing, just the thing a Makeup Artist would want to have in her kit.

The bad news for my clinet Melissa was that she had exhausted her contacts trying to locate one of these pallets and my supplier told me that they did not have one either. What to do as I hate to leave a client without a product when they need one?

But wait!!!!!  My supplier came back to me very excited as they had located 2 of the NYX S118 Pallets in a cancelled order!  How happy was I?  Very happy as it always feels good to find something your clients want desperatley.

I can tell you that when I let my client Melissa know about the find she was very excited and said
" Send it to me immediatley!"   Here is a link to her blog and you can tell how excited she is about the pallet.  Glitter Princess Blog

Lucky for me the supplier found 2 so I purchased both as I thought I might have to have one of these amazing pallets myself.  Take a look at them and you will know why the fuss.

Great Colours aren't they?  The bottom set of colours is on a slide out tray which means it is very compact to fit into a Makeup Kit.

Have you tried NYX - love to hear what products you have used and if you liked them?

You know what happen next?  I showed the box on Facebook to our fans and you guessed it, someone else purchased the second box.  So now I don't have one left for me..oh well the customers must come first.  I will be ordering more of these and I will keep one for me..I love a pallet.

These are RRP $59.99 for 112 colours which is pretty good value and NYX is a great quality makeup.

cheers

Jill

10 SUPER Secrets to Keep You Stylish

10 SUPER Secrets to Keep You Stylish

Ever wonder how the Supermodels look so effortlessly chic every time the paparazzi catch them on an ordinary day? Supermodels get inside tips from style experts to keep them flawless consider yourself a Supermodel.

1. Layer Your Look. Try pairing a long-sleeve thermal underneath a tunic and belt it with leggings. Add a jacket and legwarmers to be extra haute.

2. Designer Accessories. Most people cant afford to wear head-to-toe Chanel. Accessorize your ensemble with a designer purse or sunglasses. You'll look and feel like a million bucks and no one will notice your outfit is last season Gap.

3. Denim and High Heels. Wear a dark denim wash with black or brightly-colored heels. High shoes make your legs look longer and slender, plus you'll exude that chic factor.

4. Audrey Affect. You can never go wrong with a little black dress and layers of pearls – a quick fix to create an iconic look.

5. Red HAUTE Lip. Some people fear red lipstick...however there are hundreds of shades to choose from to compliment your skin tone. Hit up a makeup counter and ask a beauty consultant to help you find the right red.

6. Leggings are the new Tights. The trend of the moment is leggings, which is like wearing sweat pants that hug your body. You can wear leggings under tunic tops, dresses, and layered underneath denim or mini skirts.

7. Patent leather - the texture of the season. Get a pair of heels or purse to be in the NOW.

8. The Trench. This signature coat can keep you looking your best, regardless of what you're hiding underneath.

9. No Smoking Its no longer chic. Quit immediately if you are still puffing away.

10. Find a Mentor. I know you want Tim Gunn, but he is really busy. Find someone at your immediate disposal who exudes style and get some hints from them!

Doe Deere from Limecrime Makeup dyes her hair

Doe Deere has gone from a redhead to a blonde and now to this brilliant blue.
What do you think of the colour, I actually loved her as a redhead and she also looked good as a blonde..but I have to say the blue is cute.  I once went purple but that was as a 14 year old that played with mothers Magic Silver White and got carried away...that ended up with me being grounded for a few weeks.....oh well..growing up can be fun.

Have you ever dyed your hair any strange colours?  What was the reaction of others when they noticed?  Good or not so good?
Here she is a redhead
And here a blonde..I think she looks amazing with any colour hair!

Rebirth Skincare -exicting and very inexpensive!

I love good  skincare and love to try new products such as the Rebirth range of skincare that contains placenta ingredients...sounds a little yucky but I can assure you it is not.  The eye gel has no perfume at all.

I received my Anti-Wrinkle eye gel the other day and rushed to the bathroom to take my makeup off and give it a try.

It was a clear gel and felt very cooling to the skin and when I put it on the skin I could feel the skin start to tighten up a little - so far I am very impressed!  I have used it now for over a week and think that the skin around my eyes looks really good.  The pot is small, but at under $10.00 I think it is great value, given it feels so good and the results are good.

We are definitely going to be stocking this range within week, so watch the web site and give it a try, you will not be sorry you tried it.

Here is a little more detail on the brand -

Re-birth original series is the most popular placenta cream in Australia. Back in 1993, it is created by a group of old friends gathering for a school reunion. The group was shocked at how much they had all aged with lines and wrinkles. The shock prompted the group to discuss how they could challenge the aging process and recapture their youthful skin look. With the aid of experts, the group discovered the anti-aging property Placenta. With the unique formulation of the balanced proportion between placenta in oil and water base, rebirth placenta cream is effective in combating wrinkles, fine lines as well as softens the skin like a baby skin.

Have you tried any ranges of skincare that have Placenta as an ingredient?  What was your impression?

Limecrime Eye Primer coming soon!

I am so excited to relay this message from Limecrime Makeup.  We will carry this line of product and we cannot wait!

It all started with a stranger’s complaint about a product we didn’t even have. A girl on a beauty forum was lamenting that eyelid primers didn’t work on her. I couldn’t exactly disagree - my experience with primers has been spotty at best. The idea was great – create a product that will keep eyeshadow bright and crease-free all day – yet I can’t count the times when I’d spend upwards $20 on something that simply didn’t do what I needed it to. Even ‘the best of the best’ lasted only a few hours before giving in to my lids’ natural oils and created those pesky crease lines.
What is an Eyeshadow Primer and what is it supposed to do?
Eyelid Primer’s primary function is to keep your eyeshadow from creasing. What’s the point in doing all this beautiful makeup when it’s going to be ruined a few hours down the road? Primers are supposed to keep your eyeshadow in place and keep the color from fading throughout the day. And so I set out to make the Next Generation Eyeshadow Primer.
Candy Eyed Eyeshadow Helper took 6 months to develop – we’ve been at it since February going back and forth, tweaking the formula and sometimes starting over from scratch. The results were well worth the pain – we finally have a primer that works even if you live in a hot climate or have oily eyelids.
So what’s the secret?
Eyeshadow Helper was designed specifically for wear with bright eyeshadows. It’s stickier than most primers you’ll meet, which allows it to grab on to eyeshadow particles, intensifying color to the max to fade-free results. It serves as a barrier between your skin and eyeshadow which keeps oils at bay. It’s moisture-resistant so you can run, sweat, even SWIM with full assurance your eyeshadow will stay put! Our lab says it’s so potent, you will need waterproof makeup remover just to get it off! (Seriously, I have video of water being sprayed in my face and my eyeshadow never budging!)
Packaging. Most primers come in a gloss-type container with a wand. This doesn’t make sense for 2 reasons: first, primer should never be applied with a wand – doing so will put too much product on your lids and actually promote creasing. Eyeshadow Helper comes in a cream form that is easy to spread in a thin film with your finger-tip – the best way to apply a primer. Second, wand containers are wasteful because you can never get the rest of it out. Eyeshadow Helper comes in a round jar that you can enjoy till the very last drop! The formula is weightless, fragrance-free and, of course, never tested on animals. :) This product does contain beeswax so unfortunately it’s not vegan.

It will be available around the middle of the month from our store!

New from Lime Crime-Magic Eye Dust

It has been a long time since I updated the blog..and well there has been a lot going in my our business and my life..so I hope you will keep reading.  Life sometimes takes over everything and does not allow us to do the things we love the most....ill health is usually one such problem and that has been the case here.  Not my ill health but within the family and it has taken all my time and strength to be supportive and kepp the business going..so not time to blog at all.

Anyway, things have now improved and there is some new product offerings from Lime Crime with more to come in the next few months.
I hope enjoy seeing the new packaging from Lime Crime, it is so cute and it now matches the Unicorn Lipstick cases.
The other exciting new is that the makeup is no Vegan Friendly and has always been Gluten free which is so important for a lot of people.

There are new colours as well and the one we love the best is Mischief Managed, do you think it is cute? We do..
Please let me know what you think of the colours and the music!  It is Doe Deere the creator of the Lime Crime brand.

Cheers for now Jill

Milani is a fantastic range of makeup that is so well priced it is amazing !
