Jemma Jube online store

By Anne Fullerton | 9 November 2010
Not many swimwear labels can evoke the buxom babes of a Russ Meyer film as easily as they can the demure beach bunnies of the 1950s. Inspired by superheroes and supervixens, the Jemma Jube range has everything from Birkin-worthy crochet numbers to more coy retro attire. They’re all designed in Australia and made in France. Our particular favourite is the Bonnie super high-waisted shorts and bustier. They’ve just launched an online store, so get clicking.

Mecho : Worldly Soles, charity collecting shoes in Sydney

Mecho : Worldly Soles, charity collecting shoes in Sydney

Article forwarded from the mecho Site.

Worldly Soles, charity collecting shoes in Sydney

We like how the City of Sydney is supporting Worldly Soles, a charity project initiated by Student Associations from TAFE NSW in 2010. Since the beginning of the year, Worldly Soles has worked with more than 50 colleges across NSW to collect shoes from the community. You can help collect 50,000 pairs of shoes, runners, boots, sandals, heels or flats! All shoes will be donated to children and adults in need in Third World countries, including Haiti, Africa and The Himalayas.
You can drop off your unwanted new or pre-loved shoes to all Libraries and Neighbourhood Service Centres in the City of Sydney council area until January 2011. Your spare shoes will make a significant difference to more than 300 million children and adults in need, who suffer daily from foot injuries and social disadvantage as a result of having never owned a pair of shoes.
Donating one pair of shoes is worth about 3 months of savings to someone in need. It also helps the environment by preventing shoes from ending up in landfill. All shoes are accepted as long as there is some life left in them. Just make sure the soles are in good, wearable, condition.

Collection points set up at all City of Sydney Libraries and Neighbourhood Service Centres:

Town Hall (One Stop Shop) Level 2 Town Hall House, 456 Kent Street Sydney
Redfern Neighbourhood Service Centre, 158 Redfern Street Redfern
Kings Cross Neighbourhood Service Centre, 50-52 Darlinghurst Road Kings Cross
Customs House Library, 31 Alfred Street Circular Quay
Glebe Library, 186 Glebe Point Road, Glebe
Newtown Library, 8-10 Brown Street, Newtown
Haymarket Library, 744 George Street, Sydney
Surry Hills Library, 405 Crown Street Surry Hills
Ultimo Library, 40 William Henry Street Ultimo
Waterloo Library, 770 Elizabeth Street Waterloo

Win an Alpha60 outfit

Alpha60 told us about their latest range and then gave some of it away! You’re welcome…
There are a lot of animal references in your new collection, what was the inspiration for that?
We were really interested in the eyes of different characters in this range. We focused on the owl because of its huge eyes; there’s something really appealing about eyes, they really draw in and engage people.
You’ve become quite a fixture on the Australian fashion scene despite beginning your label as a hobby. How did you make that transition from hobby to business?
Yeah, my brother Al and I really just started off mucking around. It was more of a hobby, like you said. We started off making men’s shirts. People started asking for the clothes so we stocked them in stores and then they started asking for women’s shirts so we did that and it kind of just grew from there. It took a while before we actually realised we were building a business.
You’ve expanded into the overseas market. How have customers away from Australia reacted to your clothing?
It was really interesting because working in Australia, you’re so far away and you’re not influenced in the same way as international artists, you’re kind of just doing your own thing. Because of this, the designing is something different for people overseas which they really like, so we’ve had a positive response.
Does Australian design have a distinct look?
I wouldn’t say you can distinctly pick which garments are Australian designed but yeah, definitely they do stand out. Australian brands have a certain quirk about them, which we realised at Paris trade shows. The Australian brands just looked that little bit different for some reason.
What’s next for Alpha60?
If you asked Al, he’d say a thousand different things. We already have six stores plus stock internationally, so I guess the next step would be opening up a store overseas and more here in Australia. With that, we still want to keep the boutique feel our stores have now.

Tamara Mellon Unveiled Jimmy Choo’s First Fragrance to Reporters by Having Derek Blasberg Interview Her Onstage

Tamara Mellon Unveiled Jimmy Choo’s First Fragrance to Reporters by Having Derek Blasberg Interview Her Onstage

Tamara Mellon sat down with Derek Blasberg at a townhouse on 68th Street yesterday at lunchtime to discuss Jimmy Choo's latest project, a fragrance, slated to hit Saks early next year. Blasberg asked Mellon questions like they were on Dateline, about why the scent? Why now? "We felt like the timing was right, because we've transformed from a shoe brand, which is our core, to a lifestyle luxury brand," she explained to her friend. "Fragrance gives a woman identity. When a woman comes into the room, you might recognize her by smell. Or if she leaves her scarf behind and you pick it up, you smell her." Mellon told us her favorite scent is Opium: "That still reminds me of my teenage years." That's Opium as in the YSL fragrance, not the drug you smoke. "Oh, God, no! I wasn't smoking opium [as a teen]. I wasn't smoking anything. But I love that scent," she told us after the talk.
Anyway, Mellon, who stars in the fragrance's ad campaign, said she has a keen sense of smell, but that making the perfume was a learning process: "[My sense of smell is] good! But I had to do a lot of smelling. Oh my God, a lot. You're thrown into a world you're not skilled at and you just have to go with what you like and you hope everyone else likes it." The Jimmy Choo fragrance, we can report, is very girly and does not smell like shoes. "It's sitting on the right side of sexy, because I think that's a very fine line," Mellon explained. So how do you know if you've crossed it, then? "It's a fine line," she admitted. "It's a taste level." Blasberg also asked Mellon about her recent OBE award. "It means order of the British Empire. There are different ranks, the highest being the Dame, and a Sir, like Sir Elton John," she explained. "I got an OBE, which is like second to that. When a British person has kind of excelled or achieved they get OBE." Mellon's fellow OBEs include none other than Anna Wintour.

10 Steps to Perfect Eye Brows

I have always wanted to have great eye brows!  Mine are really thin and ugly - well I think they are and no amount of waxing seems to really fix the problem.  I envy those that have great eye brows and when I saw this article I wanted to share it with others.

So you guessed it- tomorrow I will have the pencils out to see how I go..let me know if this works for you?

Hot chicks like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry know that every hair counts, even if it’s not the hair on their head. Wait, that sounds dirty.
Technically, eyebrows are still ON YOUR HEAD, but you know what I mean! A bad brow game has you looking like the faces of a clown, and that ain’t cute.

HOW-TO ACHIEVE AN A-LIST SHAPE
1.  Start by facing directly forward into a mirror.
2.  Take an eyebrow pencil (or any straight edge) and place it against the outer edge of the nostril and the inside corner of your eye. This is where the eyebrow should start.
3.  Keeping the eyebrow pencil in place, dial it like a watch hand towards the pupil, stopping when it hits dead center. This is where the arch starts.
4.  Continue swinging the eyebrow pencil past the pupil, just outside the colored part of the eye. This is the high point of the arch; everything else comes back down.
5.  Swing the pencil towards the outermost corner of the eye. This is where the eyebrow should end.
6.  Brows should be thickest near the nose and thinnest at the outer edges of the eye.
7.  Invest in the proper tools. Recommend: Tweezerman-brand tweezers. They’re a Hollywood staple, plus they offer a repair service and lifetime guarantee.
8.  Face should be clean of any makeup or lotion prior to tweezing.
9.  Tweeze right after a shower, or place a warm washcloth over the brows; this will help to soften the hairs and open pores, making hairs easier and less painful to tweeze.
10. Wait at least 30-minutes after tweezing to apply makeup. Skin is more sensitive after tweezing, increasing the chances for irritation and ingrown hairs.

Kim Kardashian and Credit Cards for Kids?????

Kim Kardashian

KIM Kardashian is kindly teaching kids how to play with plastic. She'll be at a party tomorrow to promote the launch of a new, prepaid credit card for children as young as 13.

Amazingly, the 'Kardashian Prepaid MasterCards' are being marketed as helping parents keep their kids safe by allowing them to monitor their teens' spending through their cellphones. "Teens do not spend their money as their parents think they do," a rep for Mobile Resource, which is launching the card, said. "I give my son a small amount of cash and track his spending on his card." - NY Post / AFP
The Herald Sun today runs this report!

If they are prepaid this might be a good idea?  What do you think?

30 Days of Fashion - Save to Spend brought to you by Commonwealth Bank

I really believe we have great fashion in Australia and we all love to spend on fashion, however in today's economic climate we must be sensible about how much we invest in fashion.  It makes sense to buy well and manage our spending.  I thought it was interesting to see a bank get involved in Fashion!

I have seen first hand how people can overspend on fashion and run up credit card debts that would frighten you.  Please always be sensible about buying fashion and makeup on credit as it goes in and out before it is paid for.
I spent many years working in the credit industry and have a lot of expertise in debt recovery and credit cards, so if you need any advice on how to manage your debt or credit cards I would be happy to give you my opinions.

All that said, fashion is fun and common sense must be applied to any fashion spending so it stays fun.

Enjoy

Jill
